Searching Tips

Using a search engine the right way will get you better results than using it the wrong way. Follow these tips for a more successful search.

  1. If you are searching for a specific phase, for example, Internet Service Provider, it is a good idea to enclose the phrase in " marks. Most search engines then know that you are looking for a phrase, rather than those words appearing anywhere on a page.

  2. If you definitely want to have a certain word in your results, and exclude results that don't have this word, type the word with a + symbol before it. This can also work for phrases in quotes, as above.

  3. If you want to exclude a specific word, perhaps looking for CDs, but not music CDs, in many search engines you can indicate this by including the unwanted word, and prefixing it with a - symbol. This can also work for phrases, as above.
